SQL Server 2014 Copy table data returns error message: Msg 11743, Level 16, State 14, Line 215
I am copying 500,000 rows from one table to another table in the same database. I am using the "GO nn" option to do this 100 times. During one iteration I noticed that the following error message was displayed.
Msg 11743, Level 16, State 14, Line 215
Timeout occurred while waiting for METADATA_SEQUENCE_GENERATOR latch: waittime 120 seconds.
I can't find any documentation on this error message.
Is this something to be concerned about or did SS recover gracefully behind the scenes?
As a workaround, you could try reducing the usage and/or intensity of identity/sequence value requests. The question doesn't state exactly what you're doing, so it's hard to be more specific about that. For example, if you're using SELECT INTO and don't care about the target having the identity property, you can adjust your query to achieve that.
I'm afraid I don't know if the server recovers cleanly or not in this scenario. If the data is correct following the operation, and DBCC CHECKDB runs without errors, it might be harmless, but the only way to be sure would be to open a support case with Microsoft Support.
